On Friday, June 24 the University of Chicago's LASR project was topped off with its last remaining beam. In honor of the last beam being placed, Scott Giba, Berglund’s Project Manager, threw a topping off party for the significant milestone the project has achieved. In attendance was Julia Randles; Preconstruction Manager, Structural Engineer; Thornton Tomasetti, Architect; Nate Koschmann, Superintendent; Jeff Jendreas, and Assistant Project Manager; Neil Offerman.
The LASR (Laboratory for Astrophysics and Space Research) project involves a first and second floor renovation and a two story vertical expansion that the school hopes to transform the future of experimental and theoretical physics as well as improve the campuses sciences. The 63,500 Sq. Ft. project is currently 40% complete and the anticipated completion date is spring 2017.
The topping off party included pizza for team members and laborers, giveaways and a raffle for four Chicago White Sox baseball tickets!
