On Friday, The University of Illinois at Chicago held an official groundbreaking for the new College of Engineering Innovation Building. The new building will be located at 1135 S. Morgan Street, which is near the corner of Morgan and Taylor Street.
Over the last decade, enrollment in the College of Engineering has doubled in size. To accommodate the growth, the school is constructing a new 50,000 sq. ft. facility. The building will house the department of chemical engineering, mechanical and industrial engineering and the civil and materials engineering department.
The new College of Engineering Innovation Building will have space for labs, classrooms and offices for faculty and staff. It will also house the campus’s first high-bay structural research lab, where researchers can carry out a wide range of tests on large-scale structural components. The building is scheduled to be completed in 2019. Berglund will be operating as the construction manager for the project.
