We are building a new respite center for Opportunity Enterprises, a non-profit organization that works to maximize self-sufficiency and enrich qualify of life for people with disabilities in Northwest Indiana. To kickoff the project, we invited their clients to jump into the excavating equipment and get us going with a true ground breaking.
We had the chance to sponsor one of OE’s clients, Kevin, who was our “Excavator for a Day.” Here’s a little about Kevin:
“Kevin is so excited and honored to be named ‘Excavator for a Day!’ His face lights up when he sees construction sites and equipment, so he is thrilled to have the opportunity to see the machinery close-up and experience first-hand what it’s like on a construction site. Kevin regularly attends OE’s Respite Center and is always ready for the next adventure – his newest adventure as excavator is sure to be one of his most thrilling!”
RV Sutton, the excavation subcontract or on the project, was generous with his time and equipment for the event.
When complete, OE’s 18,000 square foot Respite Center, built at the organization’s Lake Eliza property, will feature separate child and adult wings, a communal kitchen with wheelchair-accessible countertops, and a fully accessible treehouse. Respite Care provides opportunities for caregivers of those with disabilities to schedule time for themselves while giving their loved ones a sense of community, independence and opportunities to interact with their peers and friends.
