Geminus Head Start, a leading provider of early childhood education services in Lake and Porter counties, and Berglund Construction are breaking ground for its new state-of-the-art facility in Porter County.
This milestone event marks the beginning of an exciting journey towards enhancing access to high-quality and affordable early childhood care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers as well as prenatal services to pregnant women in the Region.
Designed by Vavrek Architects, Inc., the new facility will span 15,246 square feet, housing five preschool classrooms and three classrooms dedicated to infants and toddlers aged three and under. This expansion will enable Geminus Head Start to serve 75 preschool children, 18 infants and toddlers and 10 pregnant women—significantly increasing the capacity to support local families in need.
The project's construction costs —more than 5 million dollars — are a testament to the commitment and investment Geminus is making in the future of early childhood education in Porter County. Funding for the facility was made possible through a generous grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Head Start, highlighting the recognition of the organization's dedication to improving early childhood education outcomes.
Once completed, the new facility will be the only one of its kind in Porter County. This accomplishment demonstrates Geminus’ focus on addressing the critical need for accessible and high-quality center-based early childhood care in the area.
