EAST CHICAGO, INDIANA (May 4, 2015) –Last week Berglund Construction received notification of being the winners of the coveted Construction Advancement Foundation’s (CAF) “Project of the Year Award for its successful completion of the East Chicago Lighthouse Academies Charter School project. The award will be presented on May 14th at the annual awards dinner.
The Berglund Project Team consisted of Jim Dyer, Sr. Vice President, Dennis Murzyn, Sr. Project Manager, and Dave Bradford, Project Superintendent. The Architect of Record was Bob Gerometta of Gerometta and Kinel Architects. Collectively this team established quality control standards that were adhered throughout the design and construction process. Berglund took pride in its preconstruction services, specifically assisting Gerometta and Kinel in the final selection of the enclosure materials for the addition providing cost estimating and budgeting. Dyer, stated “Our accuracy and attention to detail allowed Lighthouse Academies to make decisions early in the design process that would help achieve their vision of a cost efficient yet all encompassing school addition.” With input from the Principal of the East Chicago Lighthouse Academies Charter School, Berglund Construction developed a project specific safety plan that garnered a No Incident / No Accident Record.
The value added to the community from this project is truly valuable. The majority of the students that attend this school will continue their education and go onto college and be productive citizens of this great nation. 100% of the Lighthouse Academies graduates are accepted to college. 75% of their schools outperform local schools on the English-language arts and / or mathematics state proficiency assessments. The addition to the East Chicago Lighthouse Academies Charter School will allow the staff to continue their efforts in providing students a first rate education and the chance to continue to an undergraduate school.
