Berglund Construction is proud to announce the successful completion of the Geminus Head Start Porter County Early Learning Academy, officially marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday. The new 15,000 square-foot facility, located in South Haven, is set to provide much-needed childcare and early learning services to the surrounding communities.
“This facility represents a significant investment in the future of South Haven and its neighboring communities, providing critical services that will benefit families for years to come,” stated Jeff Berglund, President, Building Division at Berglund Construction. “We are proud to have delivered a space that aligns with the mission of Geminus Head Start and supports the healthy development of the children and families it serves.”
As the general contractor for this significant project, Berglund Construction played a crucial role in bringing the vision of the Early Learning Academy to life. The state-of-the-art facility features five Head Start classrooms designed to serve up to 75 children ages 3 to 5 years, as well as three Early Head Start classrooms with the capacity to serve 21 infants and children under the age of 3. The center also includes a thoughtfully designed outdoor learning area, with spaces tailored to the needs of both younger and older children.
In addition to its comprehensive childcare services, the Porter County Early Learning Academy is equipped to provide prenatal services for up to 10 pregnant women, further extending its impact on the community. The total cost of the project exceeded $5 million, fully funded by a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
