Berglund Construction Brings Modular Innovation to New Behavioral Health Hospital

As work progresses on the new Acadia Healthcare / Orlando Health Behavioral Health Hospital in Apopka, FL, Berglund Construction is proud to lead the way using innovative, modern healthcare construction practices.

This two-story, 100,000-square-foot facility will feature 144 inpatient beds—significantly expanding behavioral health access across Central Florida.

To deliver the project on an accelerated timeline without compromising on quality, Acadia and Berglund turned to modular construction—specifically, prefabricated bathroom pods designed and manufactured by BLOX, a national leader in off-site healthcare construction solutions.

“Incorporating modular pods into this project is a strategic decision that brings significant value in terms of consistency, efficiency, and speed,” said Ted Reichert, Vice President of Healthcare and Life Sciences at Berglund Construction. “By fabricating fully finished bathroom units in a controlled environment, we’re able to reduce on-site labor, minimize disruption, and ensure a higher level of quality and durability—key factors in any healthcare setting.”

Each pod arrives at the site fully constructed, complete with plumbing, electrical, fixtures, and finishes. Once delivered, they are seamlessly integrated into the building’s framework, which were fully coordinated through extensive BIM modeling, helping streamline construction and reduce variables typically encountered in field-built bathrooms.

This modular installation is not just about speed—it reflects a larger shift in the construction industry toward smarter, more sustainable building practices.
