This year, Berglund completed significant projects to upgrade the facilities at three different Chicago Public Schools.
The three projects, which spanned the city’s geography, included diverse work scopes and aggressive construction schedules. Berglund’s team delivered all projects on schedule.
The Decatur Elementary School Annex and Renovations project included a 19,000 sqft, one-story annex including three classrooms, a gym / cafeteria, library, and science room. In the existing building, Berglund renovations turned the library into a dance room and a multi-purpose room into a music room. Outside the building, Berglund installed a new playground, turf playing surface and expanded the parking lot and drive entrance areas.
At Locke Elementary School, Berglund’s work scope included restoration of the reinforced concrete structure in an existing 1920s era building. The project included structural repair, window replacement, masonry and terra cotta repairs as well as interior improvements and renovation work in the gymnasium and auditorium. We also undertook site improvements, including asphalt repairs, ADA accessibility upgrades and landscaping.
At Poe Elementary School, we completed a 19,000 sqft, two-story annex to the existing school building. The annex included a new gymnasium / multi-purpose room, a new student dining / multi-purpose room, a kitchen and food preparation area, various offices and storage spaces, utility rooms and an elevator. Site work included a new parking lot, stormwater management, infrastructure and landscaping.
